Please note that, at Rye Classics, we provide cars for weddings ... that's it! The
definition is extended to cover civil ceremonies, civil partnerships
and services of blessing. Oh, and we can do funerals as well, although
most of our cars are not exactly appropriate for such work.
However, we are unable to provide cars for other special occasions.
This is because the carriage of passengers for any other purpose
(including birthdays, stag/hen parties, school proms etc.) are covered
by private-hire licensing laws (weddings and funerals are exempt from
the regulations), and it is simply not cost-effective for us to licence
all of our cars in this way.
Assuming that you are planning a
wedding though, this is good news, because it helps us to keep the cars
in tip-top condition, and means you can be confident that your car will
not smell of somebody's sick from the night before.
If you are
looking for a car for a special occasion, please bear this in mind when
shopping around and ask about licensing*. In due course, I will try to
provide some helpful pointers on my Links page, but have not yet done
so.
* Please note that the
car, the driver and the operator must all be licenced separately.
Licensing regulations vary across the country, and some local
authorities may have more generous exemptions. The information on this
page is believed to be accurate at the time of publication in relation
to the two local authorities (Hastings and Rother) which cover our
geographical area of operation.
