 I'm
afraid I haven't yet embraced the world of Facebook or "social
networking" (as I believe it is known). To be honest, I just don't have
the time ... and I doubt that many people would be that interested in
my private life anyway. However, I thought that it would be a good idea
to create a space on this site so that I can share occasional snippets
of news that might just be of interest to a wider audience. If that
doesn't include you, please feel free to skip this page and concentrate
on the more important stuff.
WORK IN PROGRESS
It
will come as no surprise that winter time is a relatively quiet time of
year at Rye Classics, with relatively few people choosing to tie the
knot at this time of year. This gives us a chance to undertake major maintenance tasks which can't
be tackled during the height of the season.
This
year, Colin is removing the engine from the blue Daimler Limousine for
a thorough overhaul ... and when I say thorough, I mean thorough.
Anyone who has visited Colin's workshop will marvel at his attention to
detail, which means that even bits that no-one will ever see sparkle
like a new pin.
It is this approach, not only in terms of
appearance but exceptionally high standards of engineering,
and a
refusal to compromise, that provide the best possible insurance against
mechanical failure when it really matters.
Colin is also part
way through a total rebuild of his latest acquisition, a 1968 Daimler
250. This is the Daimler version of the iconic (Inspector Morse)
MkII Jaguar, and when completed, it will be a fantastic partner to our
1966 MkX Jaguar. Quite when this car will be ready is not certain ...
maybe the latter part of the 2011 season, maybe not until 2012 ... you
can be sure that it will not be offered for hire until it meets the
exacting standards described above. Watch this space for more news.
OTHER STUFF
In
my spare time, I am actively involved in the Fairlight Players, a local
amateur dramatic group with a proud 60 year history, and an enviable
reputation for great value entertainment. This is me looking rather
dashing (well, I thought so) as Count Fosco in The Woman In White.
Auditions for our Spring play take place very shortly, so I can't tell
you whether I have a part yet, but to mark the group's 60th
anniversary, I have been busy building a website for the group.
A major feature of the website is a fascinating online archive.
This seemed like a good idea when it started, but grew into a collosal
task as I discovered just how much material we had stashed away. Now
just about complete, the archive runs to some 125 online pages, so
please take a look if you have the time.
And if you fancy a good evening out in April, sign up for the e-mail updates service so you'll know when tickets go on sale.
RYE CLASSICS ARCHIVE
The Archive section of this website is home to some fond memories and communications from a few satisfied customers.
